“I use a variety of visual styles and techniques to emphasize the fragmentary nature of memory and to acknowledge the emotive effects of historical events” (Nora Krug). This was the basis for our design – an excerpt from the illustrator of On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century. Rather than the projection being supplementary material, we are allowing it to act as a character in the play. This allows us to draw more attention to detail and get a deeper understanding of what the actors are portraying onstage. We are using a variety of effects, editing techniques, and manipulation to create the environment of the play, adding even more emotion and detail. We have surrounded the space with projection surfaces, allowing for greater visual variety beyond what is onstage. You will see a range of content from historical images to present-day events to content we have created from the ground up. Through images, video, and panoramic elements, the projection design will help tell this universal and timeless story.
